TRACEY HALVORSEN

Bio

Tracey Halvorsen (American, b.1971) is a Contemporary painter, whose work encompasses both representational and abstract elements in energetic and vibrant interpretations of the impressionists and great masters, intertwined with her own narratives of savagery and turbulence, sadness and longing, nature and beauty.

Halvorsen was born in New York City, NY, and went to the Cleveland Institute of Art where she studied painting and photography. She received early acclaim for her bold and emotionally charged works, receiving early solo shows, and garnering the attention of galleries and collectors. She moved to Baltimore, Maryland to attend the Maryland Institute College of Art where she received an MFA from the Mount Royal School of Art.

Her work draws from the impressionists as well as the old masters including Delacroix, Gericault, Rembrandt, and Gentileschi. While her works pull from the paintings of the past, Halvorsen imbues her paintings with a visceral celebration of the rhythm and movement and allows the paint and mark making to play as big a role as the dramatic scenes which inspired them. Her work has been featured in solo exhibitions and group shows throughout the US and is included in numerous private collections.
